Soderbergh tests his film-making abilities through this nifty ghostly tale shot entirely from the perspective of the phantom. This is an entertaining concept that doesn't outstay its welcome, with a twist that could catch you off guard. This Saturday, afternoon and evening times, the Sky channel

The Black Phone Horror
The director's contained scarefest holds up well despite the lack of a continuation. Set in 1978 Denver, a series of kidnappings has left the local kids on edge. When Finney gets captured by the kidnapper and locked up in a cellar, he dreads the worst. But the old telephone in the room continues to ring, with spooky callers offering help, while the prophetic visions of Gwen, his sister might rescue him. A solid creepfest. October 11th, nighttime, on Film4
The Tammy Faye Biopic
In the conflict between spirituality and money, the victory is clear for Mammon in this director's delightfully tacky true story of the disgraced televangelist plus her lawbreaking partner. Andrew Garfield portrays the venal Jim, who states initially, claiming divine approval for wealth. The couple set about monetising the people's Christian beliefs. It's a spectacle of tacky decor, overdone appearance and insincerity, yet Jessica Chastain achieves to show the real-life figure in a likable light. October 14th, late night, the Film4 channel
