Larian Studios Announce a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Most Ambitious RPG Ever

The speculation about The Game Awards was significant, particularly after presenter Geoff Keighley posted an enigmatic image of a desert monolith. The question has been revealed. The acclaimed developer is developing a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was debuted with a daring trailer that included striking imagery, from a burning man to scenes of revelry and the very unleashing of hell.

A Different Direction

Anyone hoping for Divinity Original Sin 3, that is not happening. Larian stated ahead of time that a direct sequel to its critically acclaimed RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a continuation of the main series. This distinction hints that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience rather than another tactical title. Currently, this is speculation, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

A Pillar of Modern RPGs

The Divinity series is highly rated and many say it pioneered the recent resurgence of deep computer role-playing games. These games are celebrated for rich lore, choice-driven narratives, and complex character building—qualities that subsequently were perfected in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its setting is classic fantasy, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency given to the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is packed with unique possibilities that are viable by choosing a specific type of character with a specific history of choices.

The series is also wonderfully permissive, allowing players to find creative solutions both in story and combat. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, sometimes in surprising fashion.

  • You might solve a puzzle because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could defeat a foe by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

The Journey Continues

It is this design philosophy that allow people to label games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as among the greatest role-playing games of all time. Now, fans can anticipate a new entry in this groundbreaking franchise.
